Blackberry vs iPhone
Ok here’s my take on the Blackberrry vs iPhone.
First of all I’ve had them both, I started out with the Blackberry Pearl which I used for a year before getting the Blackberry Storm, I’m now using the iPhone. I have to sya I think there both great phones but having used them both for a while now I can see a winner, well maybe!
Im goin to split this up into different categories, i.e email, battery, screen, games, other applications etc and try and give you my opinion on which fares best. Im gonna kick it off with battery life (all iPhone owners now cringe)
Battery life
Battery life, is it important?, for me it is, others not so much. My Blackberry pearl had an awesome battery life, the Storm not so much and the iPhone doesnt even know what battery life is. Depending on what happened in my week very much depended upon the Storms batterylife but normally I would get 5 days out if, that involved email, occasionally messenger and a few other bits but overall quite good, the pearl would go on for weeks so no problems there. The iPhone as some of you may already know is not the greatest when it comes to battery life, I’m lucky if I get 2 days out of it, I have my email set to fetch every 15 mins and I occasionally dip in and out of applications and maybe play the odd game but thats about it. If you dont sit working at your pc/mac and have the iPhone plugged in then i supposed id be pretty hacked of with it but as it happens I do, just dont forget your charger if you go anywhere.
So in this case the Blackberry Perl/Storm is the clear winner in the battery life test.
ok, email, well the Blackberry was made for this, its the reason its the business mans choice I suppose, it handles email without fault, well most of the time. In fareness to both phones I find this a difficult one, if I wanted to put my email onto an Exchange Server I can also have true push email on the iPhone, as it is I dont bother, Im quite happy for it to run its schedule every 15 mins or even 10, my Blackberry only seemed to do that anyway. For me I cannot split the 2 phones on this and would score it a draw.
Screen/touchscreen
For the screen not only did i look at the display but also how well the touchscreen works too. I think its quite difficult to differentiate the quality of the display between the Storm and the iPhone but maybe if pushed the Blackberry may be a ad better BUT, yes the but is here, I find the touchscreen far far superior on the iPhone to the Blackberry Storm (pearl excluded from this). I’ve had so many problems with the Storm getting confused and freezing you wouldnt believe it. In this category the iPhone wins hands down.
Applications/how they work
With 1000’s and 1000’s of application in the iStore the iPhone wins without question, I have the WordPress app installed on my iPhone which allows me to blog from anywhere, games galore, business apps galore, am I goin on…lol Lets not forget Skype on the iPhone too.
However, one thing that really really bugs me is how the applications run on the iPhone, for instance, I cant run a messenger program and open my email at the same time, whats that all about, my Blackberry would quite happily sit there with several things open and all was well.
Of course the iPhone wins this, there are some great apps for the iPhone but id like to see them change how they all run together in the future.
Social networking
No contest, the iPhone, twitter, facebook, way better than anything the Blackberry has.
Calls/quality
This is another difficult one and also depends on the carrier but again as Ive had both Vodafone and O2 I’d have to go with the iPhone and O2, the calls on the iPhone always seem so good, real clear and I dont think I’ve had a lost call yet.
In the pocket
The pearl was a great compact phone, nice and light, the Storm is a positive brick, I may as well be carrying the actual Blackberry mail server around in the other pocket too. The iPhone is the winner here, slimline, light, awesome.
So the winner is…
I know there are a few things I’ve missed, like the camera and a few other bits and bobs, but, to be honest i rarely use my phone as a camera, I have a great digital camera for that, ok so i twit the occasional pic from the phones but thats about it and theyre both pretty much on par with each other in that respect…
All told I have a clear winner and Im really pleased with it.
For me the winner is the iPhone
Maybe you dont agree, let me know your thoughts.
